UroGP 2022 in Review

David Chen and James Gunasegaram

The upshot:
UroGP is an annual conference where urologists come together to share their knowledge with general practitioners. While it’s primarily aimed at GPs, its resulting accessibility makes it a great place for students and junior doctors interested in urology to come and learn about urological topics and meet other people who share a passion for urology. This year marked a return to in-person events, meaning we had plenty of time to meet delegates from all corners of allied health and medicine. If you’ve read their articles or listened to their podcasts, they’re probably here!

YURO in the spotlight:
This year was also the first year where YURO collaborated with UroGP to include abstract presentations from junior doctors and medical students in the conference schedule. The showing from our members didn’t disappoint, with over two dozen abstracts receiving spoken presentations and becoming immortalised in the UroGP program. Just about any research is fair game as long as it’s quality and based in urology, so if you’re looking for somewhere to get eyes on your research or see how others are pushing the boundaries, UroGP may be just the place.

Highlights:
David: The highlight of the event for me was to meet so many amazing people finally in person after hearing urologists on podcasts or seeing people at zoom meetings. Being able to meet face to face and have a yarn was such a welcomed change after the last two years. It was also a terrific experience to learn about urology talks throughout the day from female urinary incontinence to urological rashes. All in all, there was not a dull moment and the energy was abuzz with curiosity and passion for this great field!

James: I’d have to agree with David that I appreciate finally being able to see people in person and talk to them without a computer screen between us. It’s no exaggeration to say that offline conversations move a thousand times faster than the slow crawl of chain emails. Getting to hear such a wide perspective of views and interests within urology was amazing, and gave me a newfound understanding of both the established wisdom and cutting edge of urology.

Overall Rating:
We highly recommend any medical students or junior doctors in urology to attend this wonderfully put together event. Not only was it informative for doctors at all stages, it was also a terrific environment to submit an abstract and get involved with presenting your research.
